Story short, I use Google Drive to store my photos, migrated recently from Dropbox. Photos sync works, I can access them in the Cloud and synchronize them to the computer via Google Drive. Yet there is one issue with Windows 8/10. If you put Google Drive to the library or even add it to the Photos app, it will not generate or even bother to index them, not sure if this is Google or Microsoft issue, but fix is quite easy. Normally it would make much more sense to do such thing in Hyper-V, as it does come with Windows 8 and Windows 10, but as I do like to play with the Linux systems a lot, I prefer to stick with VirtualBox.
This tutorial will cover configuration of VirtualBox and Windows 10, also Windows Server 2016 (Tech Preview). Continue reading “Active Directory in the VirtualBox”
I own LG SmartTV with webOS. While it is good TV and does job well it still missed something.
You can connect PC to it via HDMI and use it as another monitor to watch something, you also can stream videos via SmartShare application if they are both connected to same network, however for both these cases your PC and TV had to be turned on which was not very comfortable or power efficient. When Windows 8 was released there were tons of going on in the internet. Some loved it some hated.
While Windows 8 was quite unusual to use, it was still working faster than Windows 7.
Windows launched update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 which can be downloaded only (for some reason) from app store.
And here is where the “fun” started, as there were thousands of users who could not install it for unknown reason. Continue reading “Windows 8 to 8.1 update – Something happened and the Windows 8.1 couldn’t be installed please try again. Error code 0×80240031”
Windows 8.1 comes pre-installed with Metro Skype, do not know about you, but I personally hate it, but since you can remove it and install good old desktop version it was not a big deal.
However noticed that once desktop version was installed, it simply did not launched, even after deleting old files from %appdata% of Skype, during launch new files were created, but software would not launch.
In order to fix it, I had only to enable .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) from Windows features and that did the trick.
It is second new software I am testing, before formatting, I was searching for wireless signal indicator, but found only this toolbar. It is also quite good, you can select your network interface, if you have more then one, it also logs some info, so you can see how much you downloaded/uploaded this month. You can change units to your liking. HERE is official download link.
Recently I thought about updating my software in laptop, so why not before formatting, to install some new software for a test. One which I found quite useful, was a bar which shows remaining battery and some extra info on mouse over. You could say that it is useless and really not a good find, since there are plenty of gadgets. The gadgets are good think, but the problem is that they are visible only on desktop. There are also systray icons, but they mostly will take one space and will show info only on mouse over. But this will show info always, since this is a toolbar. If you are interested HERE is official download link. It also works on Windows 7 x64
