Let’s just say you have Ubuntu 12.10 (04) and you install any other windows manager, once you do so they appear in the list when loging in to your account, which is great. But sometimes we do not want to see them all. For example safe-mode or 2D or other which we normally will not use. Here is quick tutorial how to simply hide them.
Launch your terminal and navigate to this location /usr/share/xsessions/.
You can do it with this command:
then type ls to list all the sessions which are available:
Each file represents entry from login drop-down list.
In order to hide entry, simply rename the .desktop file. For example, I got the mate desktop, so I’m going to remove gnome-classic by renaming it:
sudo mv gnome-classic.desktop gnome-classic.desktop-backup
